Surgery Scheduler Coordinator
Role: Surgical Coordination and Patient Liaison
Location: In person
Schedule: Full-time; no nights or weekends
Deen Gross Eye Centers is a progressive ophthalmic practice looking for an energetic new team member who wants a rewarding career in healthcare. The Surgery Scheduler Coordinator assists patients with all aspects of pre-operative preparation and acts as a liaison between the office, surgical facility, patient, and surgeon, supporting the patient throughout the entire surgical process.
Responsibilities
- Educate and support patients throughout the surgical process
- Schedule surgical and pre/post-operative visits
- Finalize all surgery details with the physician and chosen surgical facility
- Perform required testing and prepare all surgical documentation
- Assist patients while preparing for surgical treatments as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma required
- Surgery scheduling coordinator experience preferred
Medical Biller
Role: Medical Billing and Collections
Location: In person
Schedule: Full-time
Deen Gross Eye Centers is a progressive ophthalmic practice looking for an energetic new team member who wants a rewarding career in healthcare. This position is responsible for billing operational duties and requires accuracy, thoroughness, and a good understanding of practice policies and insurance procedures, while adhering to the highest standards of billing practices.
Responsibilities
- Communicate professionally with physicians, staff, patients, and insurance companies as a positive team member
- Apply extensive knowledge of ophthalmology medical billing, coding, copays, and referral processes
- Ensure all billing and collection functions are handled thoroughly and professionally
- Perform regular audits of insurance follow-up, patient collections, insurance/cash posting, and transaction posting
- Process electronic insurance payments, transmit claims, review payments and refund requests, and balance accounts
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Medical office billing experience preferred
Ophthalmic Medical Assistant
Role: Direct Clinical Support in Patient Care
Location: Merrillville or Hobart, IN
Schedule: Full-time; no nights or weekends

Responsibilities
- Perform patient workups and assist with exams
- Document patient histories and triage calls
- Manage prescription refills, referrals, and prior authorizations
- Scribe for physicians and support follow-up care
- Maintain clinical equipment and exam room readiness
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- COA or COT certification preferred (training available)
- Interest in long-term growth and certification encouraged

Dr. David Gross
Dr. David Gross is one of the driving forces behind Deen-Gross Eye Centers’ long-standing reputation for excellence. He has been caring for patients across Northwest Indiana for more than 25 years and continues to lead by example in both clinical skill and patient compassion.
- Board-certified ophthalmologist with advanced training in laser vision correction, cataract care, glaucoma treatment, and lens implants
- Performed more than 35,000 cataract surgeries and 25,000 lens implant procedures over the course of his career
- Known for taking time with patients, answering questions clearly, and creating a calm, reassuring experience
- Available for emergency care when patients need him most
- Deeply committed to teamwork, mentorship, and maintaining high standards of care
Dr. Gross completed his medical training at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and his ophthalmology residency at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Team members appreciate working alongside a physician who values precision, professionalism, and genuine human connection.
Dr. Nelson is a board-certified ophthalmologist with advanced training from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He performs cataract surgery, laser procedures, and glaucoma treatments with a focus on patient comfort and clinical precision.
A board-certified optometrist with over 20 years of experience, Dr. Taffora provides primary eye care, contact lens fittings, and post-operative management. Patients value her thoroughness, warmth, and personalized approach.
